Religious bigotry is so important...apparently
Well, that told all you gay people right?
Look, we know you want to join this movement, but you must remember it is more important for you to be shunned and made to look like you are the one who has a problem.
I love that line about "but everything will be destroyed, the Latter Day Saints and Catholics will leave in their droves, gay people will destroy it all!"
The emphasis being on the decline in support and numbers because people are bigoted arseholes and not about giving any thought to what effect this has on gay people.
I've blogged enough how I feel about gay people and how it really is important not to worry about who is gay and who isn't because it is destructive, dangerous and just plain bloody stupid. My being hetro doesn't give me super powers etc etc.
This is madness.
Look at that idiot - there he is, without blinking, telling a gay black man that the Latter Day Saints will be sad if more young gay kids or adults join the Scouts.....I nearly spilled my Tea when I saw that!
Funny, in 1978 some bright spark of a Mormon has a convenient "vision" that, despite his magic book explaining in great detail the importance of being a racist bastard cos God cursed the black people, suddenly it was ok to be black and a Mormon.
Tell them that now, its all water under the bridge, don't worry that they didn't change the book, its the thought that counts!
I wonder how long before all these bigoted churches have a convenient "vision" about gay people?
Oh well, lets hope common sense deals with this in the meantime
If you were, well done you splendid person!

Beware The Breasts of Doom!
This article basically shows just how frightened people can get in the sight of women's breasts
I even spoke to a few friends on Facebook about this - I'm staggered
North Carolina what is WRONG with you?
I've said it before, I'll say it again - why can't women go topless if they want to? Is the sight of a pair of breasts really that much of a danger to society?
Do the topless beaches around the world suddenly have erotic riots at the mere hint of open mammary warfare?
The more people get hysterical about this sort of thing drives me round the twist - they are not making things any better - look at Islam for example and the mere hint of ankle can drive men into a sexual frenzy - I'm quite sure the more this is escalated the worse it gets for everyone.
I'm quite sure if it became more the normal thing, it wouldn't need people leaping to hysterics over something so innocuous.
Woolybumblebee linked to an interesting article as well today
I agree with the article - there are incidents where breasts are non sexual and when breasts are - rather depends on the situation.
I've been on many topless beaches, most swimming pools around France, even one in Australia where there was a massive sign jokingly forbidding women to wear bikini tops. All the men were topless too, some even wearing the skimpiest of trunks leaving very little to the imagination - it just wouldn't occur to me personally to see that as a sexual thing.
Nudity simply doesn't bother me - male or female - I've seen it all before. Flipping heck - I remember the Rugby Team at my university used to go streaking around the buildings with the slightly less fit and out of shape security guards chasing after them. They'd leg it up the fire escape to the student's union bar, throw on some clothes and pick up their drinks before the guards arrived and couldn't spot who'd done it!
On the flip side, yes, breasts can be used in sexual imagery, I'm quite certain women who want to look alluring will show more skin, will use their bodies to draw in sexual partners - same as men do too. I'm not going to lie, being hetero does tend to hint that I do like the sight of breasts, but I'm glad to report, like the majority of people in this world, I can control my sexual urges.
I absolutely abhor the exploitation of people, the terrible conditions that people are forced into against their will - human trafficking and kidnapping for prostitution purposes is rife and there are not words I can use to describe my disdain and disgust of such practices. Same too with the porn industry - some people - men and women- are being horribly exploited.
Same too with the reprehensible "Cosmoplitan" or fashion model/magazine syndrome whereby people are "too fat, too thin" etc and the ridiculous media circus of "this" is what a woman/man should look like.
Bugger that.
Men and women are all different shapes and sizes of human - nothing wrong with keeping up fitness and maintaining a body but there are limits as to how far I'd push that - never to the horrible extent of the fashion model look.
Put simply - I've got nothing against women having the same rights as men to publicly go topless, getting hysterical to the point of sending people to prison for it is illogical and backwards thinking.
As adults it should be perfectly clear when things are sexual and when they are not, all the sexuality that people consent to is also fine with me. Some people actively search for sex and do all sorts of things because they, as adults, want to.
If people want to strip off for art - including modern day films - again, within the limits of non exploitation then go for it.
But arresting people for showing their chests in public? Really?
Don't think so North Carolina, that is daft.

How do you "act" gay, hetro, bi etc?
Video by Justicar got me thinking
Right.
So.
How's my hetro? Oscar worthy? Could Al Pacino match this?
I just have this tremendous difficulty with ascribed roles concerning sexuality that Justicar very adeptly in his video addresses.
Meeting a gay person is not different to me than meeting a hetro person - I don't know how best to describe this other than... well so what?
I'm not here to tell you how to be gay, I'm rightly concluding you've figured that part out for yourself so much so that sexuality is a non thing for me.
My opinion of anyone is not judged on how bi, gay, hetro or all of them at once someone is.
That person is a person. Sexuality really is superfluous to me, it doesn't register any more than my hetrosexuality does other than I'm certain I'm hetro - I have no super powers after that
Dammit! :D
One thing I like about this video is - how the hell do you know if someone is not bi?
Even after that how do you then ascribe a role for it? Aha, so, that way you walk, gotcha you bisexual!
That "are you the man or the woman of the relationship" question kind of knocks me over too - how the hell does that even work? Men and women have roles to play?
I think the thing that really gets me is there is an ascribed role to play - you are this, this is how you do that - errr no.
Humans in my humble opinion are tremendously random - all shapes, shades and sizes of random -deal with who I am not what you think I should be.
Same applies to everyone
I don't judge Justicar by his gayness - its fucking awesome to behold, granted - but I'd feel pretty stupid telling him how I think he should act as a gay man or have any pre-ascribed rules which he must adhere to, I'm fairly certain that is not how it works.
I can't quite grasp someone telling me, right Philip, now, here is the spirit level of hetro, you've gone and overdone it young man, more balance needed!
Or perhaps not enough?
Could I BE more hetro?
More to the point, is anyone really going to worry about it?
Cheeeeeeeeeeeeers!
Right.

You are only right if you agree with me!
Ye gods and pixies, have you seen this?
Basic key to discussion - UNLESS you already agree with Jenny, you've lost the right to question her about anything.
Seems Jenny is not the only one to think this - apparently PZ is doing the same here and this video here
Great tactic, do I have to start putting Yong-il at the end of the surnames now?
Funny, I've always thought that if there is disagreement, it should be discussed to determine if a conclusion can be reached via mutual agreement.
Furthermore, people are allowed to have their own opinions
At least that is what my degree level education taught me
But hey, I'm a racist, rapist and misogynist, far too privileged and white etc How DARE I argue and disagree?

Last Kind Words - Geeshie Wiley
Thanks Mykeru, excellent song!
Forget the Banhammer: Enter...The Block Bot!!
So, there is some chap called Oolon - came on the Slymepit in the hopes of proving that associating with the Slymers would not get him banned on Pharyngula
That got him subsequently banned from Pharyngula
Since then he has been swapping Tweets with "ophelia" and Aratina, a Pharyngula regular who I have written about before
This is hilarious
http://www.oolon.co.uk/?page_id=161
What will this accomplish precisely?
I am a little confused as to how getting people's Twitter accounts banned could ever be a good idea
So I disagree with people - I would not even do this to Piers Morgan or Deepak Chopra - they deserve to have a voice as much as I do on the Internet. Taking away that would mean I couldn't take the piss out of them or report on their nonsense and show it to be so. Plus that is their Twitter account, not mine, why the fuck should I care?
I don't read their stuff if I don't want to, that way I don't have to worry about them - let them spout their bullshit
This escapade of blocking seems a bit hysterical to be honest, talk about paranoia too - the people on that list, they are not spam-bots and they are not directly going against the rules and guidelines of Twitter's terms of service - why would you want them banned?
I wonder precisely what the reaction would be if the Pitters resorted to this behaviour? I'm fairly sure there would be some serious screaming from all the corners of the Baboon Network - it would be the worse thing in the universe.
If you go to the Slymepit you'll find the worse reaction is us all laughing our heads off and denouncing this bollocks for what it is - bollocks!
Oolon, stop this nonsense mate, you are not going to accomplish anything, you are not going to affect anything, it will get you nowhere.

Mykeru Update: Creepy Clown proves to be Creepy!
First off - I'd love to know what that music is at the start of the videos, I can't put my finger on it but it really appeals to me. Weird I know, but hey, remember, this is me!
Righty ho
Ophelia you idiot.
As you so condescendingly told me the last time we spoke, this is not all about you, don't make it about you!
Mykeru's video was about ALL his critics, you are just one of them.
He is fed up with your reprehensible behaviour and he called you on it, you've lied about, accused and quote mined a lot of people whilst playing the victim - you could have sorted it, you could have actually attempted to rebut Mykeru, but no - you did EXACTLY what he said you would.
"They wear contrived victim-hood like a clown wears grease-paint and like a dog rolls in shit"
What has dear Ophelia got to say for herself?
OMG - Her face is on the video!! Yes, it was "mykeru" who contrived to pause the video right at the exact moment, I hear his Haxor Skillz are almost as good as Thunderf00t's!
Oh and - the killer blow - she is being "targeted!"
HOLY FUCKING SHIT NO!!
Oh no wait a second - she doesn't mind all the doxxing, the quote mining, the dragging of otherwise completely innocuous people through the mud - even the big names don't matter, *Cough*, Shermer, *Cough* Dawkins *Cough* cos that is fair game. Men are all rapists, men are all bullies, racist, white, old, misogynists from the evil patriarchy. You can pillory who you want "ophelia" but as soon as someone comes at you with a well reasoned, evidenced and well thought out argument then the switch to professional victim happens in the blink of an eye.
Yeahhhh, Mykeru is the arsehole around here for sure, bastard went and "targeted" you.
Get over yourself "ophelia", you brought this shit upon yourself when you stopped being reasonable and started acting like a Creationist.

Mykeru has got it right
This is what I call taking on your critics, this is how the Hitch handled it, this is how Mykeru handles it - you get critics, you invite them to say what they will, just also make it perfectly clear you are not only happily willing to kick their arse but you are also completely capable of it
The actions of FreefromanythoughtstbuttheirownBlogs, Skep(DON'T CALL THEM CHICKS UNLESS YOU ARE ONE OF THEM) and the Atheism + Victims are pretty much reprehensible, the crap they pull to make it look like they are the ones in the right.
Mykeru got it bang on when he said these people are the predators, covered in shit to mask their true nature, these people act like they are so put upon yet they are the ones causing the trouble.
I'M BEING HARASSED! HALP! That Elevatorgate from Florida is stalking me!
(Err Becky, he's from the UK, he's not stalking you and he doesn't just pick on you....)
BUT PEOPLE ARE TRYING TO KILL ME!! HALP! YOU'VE GO TO STOP THEM, THEY HAVE TO STOP THREATENING ME!
So the emphasis is placed on making people like Mykeru a threat, destroy these evil people! They might be showing your bullshit for what it really is, but hey, you're a Crusader, have at them!.
What? Someone is disagreeing? Make them the monsters - go for it Ophelia, go for it PZ!
I saw PZ on a recent video which if I can get the link for I'll post it later - he makes out that the Slymepitters are the worst scum of the universe and that he makes out that he was "forced" to make sure they could never post on his blog cos they are so terrible.
Wrong
I'm convinced until proven otherwise that he and people like Ophelia can't handle criticism.
They can stand there all day spouting bravado about kicking arse but when it comes down to it you lot are no Mykerus and sure as hell are not Hitch-worthy enough to handle anything that is out of their comfort zone - which is paper thin and liable to tear at the slightest mouse fart.
I love that statement at the end - "Go ahead, I got some mocking with your name on it!"
Damn right you have, keep up the good work Mykeru!

Crommunist, you angry man you!
I know, I'm an idiot for even doing this cos it was destined to get ridiculous but my curiosity got the better of me and I tweeted dear Crommunist about his comment
I did actually get an answer from him in that he'd been constantly told that nobody in Europe was a racist and that his response was the one in my last post.
Fine.
So I admitted I'd read his post wrong, you know, as I said before, I'm not the sort of chap to accuse someone of what they have not done if there is evidence to suggest I got it out of context. You'd think that after I'd done that, that I'd actually, in hindsight stupidly, been nice to him about it, I'd given him the benefit of the doubt and been civil enough but ooooohhhh no, he had to press the issue.
I mean really?
He just wanted to get a rise out of me and get me all sweary, clearly he has been posting on Pharyngula for so long he's forgotten what civility is. I decided flirty language was a much better option :D
What cracks me up about this little exchange is that I basically said that the conversation was going no where and it was best to leave it at that.
He then says flounce - huh, I don't see any flouncing, flouncing is when you rage and tear and then stomp off in a bad mood (See Jen McCreight)- I was just bored of the way he was using everything I said to make me look as bad as possible - every single word was under scrutiny so that he could turn it into him looking seemingly macho and look how I crushed that racist European! (See what I did there?)
I love that he then says "YOU Tweeted ME! You're free to stop whenever you like" as if to say well you started this, I'll continue till you say so - I went with the flirty option again, seemed the best way I could walk away from it.
Crommunist, you are a very angry man, I probably could have phrased my first Tweet a little better but when I'm confronted with what you wrote to Melody how else was I to guess that your Tweet meant something else?
Well cheers for that, excellent conversation we had, good luck with being rude to people, it will get you so far in life!
